Finding alternatives in New York

One of the great things with this job is that the crew you work with changes every flight and unless you already know them you don't know who you'll get! Obviously sometimes this can be bad but on this trip it worked out great! I had a whole crew of people I'd never met & it turned out one of the girls used to live in New York & said she'd take us around some different spots to the usual crew hangouts (us crew can be creatures of habit!) I had planned to do some other bits, but after having flown for a while now I know that if you get the opportunity to do something different you have to take it when you can!

Bubbys in the meat packing district
Us 3 girls met first thing and took the bus into Manhattan. On some trips we stay right in the centre of New York, but this one we were in a hotel just on the other side of the Hudson River. Our tour guide for the day took us over to the meat packing district for a boozey brunch. Its such a cool area, with little designer boutiques, artsy hotels and cool one off cafes, bars and restaurants dotted around. We chose a busy cafe called Bubbys that had been recommended & it didn't disappoint - the eggs benedict was so good, with delicious fresh sourdough & a really good hollandaise and as always in america the portion size was huge! Oh and you've got to wash it down with a peach Bellini, I felt a little tipsy and only had one...I can be such a lightweight its ridiculous!
The meat packing district is a more up and coming area and part of its regeneration was making the old railway line a pedestrianised walkway called The Highline. It gives you a unique perspective of this part of city below. Its perfect to stroll along on a sunny day, grab an ice-cream half way along and almost forget you're in such a fast paced city.

The Highline
If there's anything New York's known for its the shopping! This time was just window shopping for me as I really need to start reigning my spending in,but I would recommend, instead of the obvious Times Square, head to Soho. As well as having all the usual suspects store wise, you'll find some really cool one off boutiques and market like shops that have multiple small traders inside so you know you'll be buying something one of a kind. You also can never go too far here without spotting some street art, which is always insta-worthy! This was just a one night trip, as so many of our NYC's are and sadly there wasn't enough time to do everything we wanted,
so until next time New York!

Next stop... holiday time!
