One night in the Big Apple

I had some lovely days off in my second home of Portugal seeing my dad and the rest of the family, but I was looking forward to getting back to work for this trip to New York. I was originally rostered quite a lot of days off, so swapped some of them for this trip as never get to visit the big apple!

Iconic N.Y.C yellow cab

We landed late so I just went straight to bed. Next morning I woke up at stupid o'clock because the bloody rooms alarm clock was set to go off at 6am! Not impressed. Couple of the girls were going to this diner place but I've been there before and had seen a really cute place online that I wanted to try out. Some people may find this sad, but I was quite proud of myself that I went there on my own, not something I've done before. I didn't want to miss out on doing something I wanted to because no one else was planning to leave their room (sometimes trips are like that). The place was called Citizens of Chelsea and to be honest looked pretty unassuming from the outside. Everything on the menu however, sounded so good from  beetroot hummus and poached eggs on sourdough bread to piles of pancakes with fruit and syrup. I went for the smashed avocado with feta & poached egg and oh em gee it was delicious and is presented in such a pretty way - very insta worthy!

That's food porn right there!
So after I stuffed my face I walked into central Manhatten as I had got wind there were some sample sales going on. Now to be honest, I don't really know what a sample sale is, I'm guessing just older stock the companies are trying to get rid of. What I do know was it was bargain central! So it was a pop up shop on 5th avenue and the brands there were GHD (who I was going there for) also make up from Cover FX and about 5 other brands too. Get this, I bought a pair of brand new, boxed, limited edition GHD straightners for $70 (they RRP for £150+)!!! Say what?! Also a foundation stick and pressed powder from Cover FX for $12. Very happy with that! So definitely going to make sure I research if there are ever more sample sales on whenever I come to N.Y.C.

First time in Central Park!
After that, the two girls I mentioned earlier who had gone to the diner, wanted to go ice-skating in Central Park. I've never even been in Central park, let alone ice-skating there so I jumped at the chance to join them! I try not to take for granted the amazing opportunities I get through this job to see and experience things that many people would love to be able to. This was one of those times where I had to pinch myself and think, wow this is an actual bucket list moment being ticked off! This job can be surreal sometimes. As fun as the ice-skating was, it was insanely cold .. I think about 4c tops! So we couldn't stay out much longer. Freezing cold walk back to the hotel, via times square, to try warm up with a bath then under the duvet before check out! Never enough time in this great city and I can't wait to be back... one day I will be here in the snow, that's the dream!
